Gold Trading Hours and How the XAUUSD Market Works

Gold trading hours, daily maintenance, weekends, holidays and the differences between spot XAUUSD, CFDs and COMEX futures.

01

Spot, CFDs and futures are not identical

XAUUSD usually means gold quoted in US dollars on a forex or CFD platform. Exact hours, daily maintenance and weekend availability depend on the broker. COMEX futures follow their own rules.

02

A nearly continuous market

The benchmark GC contract trades for nearly 23 hours a day during the week with a daily interruption. CME also offers a 1-Ounce contract trading 24/7 subject to maintenance windows. This does not mean every XAUUSD broker offers identical hours.

03

Weekends and holidays

Hours may change around US and UK holidays. Always check the symbol specification in your platform before placing an order or leaving a pending order.

FAQ

What time does XAUUSD open?

There is no universal time: it depends on the broker and platform timezone. Check your platform’s XAUUSD specification.
